Standalone Blackberry - Instructions
To find the version of your BB software, choose Options/About, then click the appropriate link in the instruction page. The "over the wireless network" option is probably the easiest one.
Download and update your Desktop Software here.

Palm Treo - Instructions
In most cases, the easiest approach is, in the Download and Install section, to click Over the Air. You do not have to update your desktop software.
